Master Chess Unblocked: Play Free Online
Master Chess is classic chess in your browser, made by CodeThisLab. You can play Master Chess unblocked with no download and no install: pick the computer as your opponent, or take on other players online, and try to checkmate the enemy king.
How to play Master Chess
The board has 64 squares and each side starts with 16 pieces. White moves first, then the players take turns, one move each. You win when the other king is in check and has no legal way out: that is checkmate.
Moving is the same on every device. Choose a piece, then choose where it goes:
- Click or tap your piece
- Click or tap the target square
- Wait for the reply move

How each piece moves
Knowing the six pieces is most of what you need to start. The rules below are the standard rules of chess.
A few special rules come up in most games. A pawn may move two squares on its very first move. A pawn that reaches the far side of the board turns into another piece, almost always a queen. Castling moves the king two squares toward a rook and puts the rook on the other side of it, as long as neither has moved and the squares between them are empty and safe.
Tips to get better
- Control the center. Pieces in the middle of the board reach more squares than pieces on the edge.
- Bring out knights and bishops early. Get them off the back row before you start an attack.
- Castle early. It tucks your king away and connects your rooks.
- Check every move for threats. Before you play, ask what your opponent’s last move attacks.
- Count before you capture. Trading a knight for a pawn is a bad deal, so count what you win and what you lose.
- Do not move the queen out too soon. Early queen moves are easy to chase around and cost you time.

The calm choice. Take as long as you like on each move and use it to learn the openings and the special rules.
Online players
Real people, so every game is different. A good next step once the basics feel easy.
Aizi's tip after a game, look back at the move where things went wrong. Most losses come from one missed threat, and spotting it once makes it easier to see the next time.
Growing your game
Chess rewards steady habits more than flashy ideas. Play a few short sessions instead of one long one, and pick one thing to work on each day, such as castling early or checking threats before every move. When the same mistake shows up twice, that is the habit to fix first.
If you want a break from thinking, switch to something fast for a round and come back with fresh eyes. The board will still be there.
Common mistakes in your first games
- Grabbing free pawns. A pawn that looks unprotected is sometimes bait. Before you take it, check what your piece can be attacked by on the new square.
- Moving the same piece twice. In the opening, every move should bring a new piece into play. Repeating a move means your opponent gets ahead in development.
- Forgetting the king’s escape squares. A king boxed in by its own pawns can be mated by a single rook or queen. Give it room, or castle and keep the pawns in front of it.
- Ignoring a check. When your king is in check you must answer it on the very next move: capture the attacker, block the line, or step away. Scan for checks before you plan anything else.
A first session plan
Start a game against the computer and aim for three simple goals: castle by move ten, bring out both knights, and never leave a piece hanging. Do not worry about winning. After the game, try again with the same three goals. Once they feel automatic, move on to online players and add one new idea, such as trading pieces when you are ahead.
